About

A woman with curly hair is smiling with her eyes closed on a sandy beach with a clear blue sky, wearing a green top, earrings, and sunglasses on her head.

The artist

Aisha Ayoade is a multidisciplinary artist and creative director. Through her work, she documents comfort as a practice - from sacred moments of solitude to familiar gatherings of ease. Through painting and sculpture, Aisha verbs the idea of home, rendering it as moveable and ever-changing. For Aisha, home is conjured through practices of comfort rather than confined to a physical place. Her work is anchored in West African cultural practices, both from within and beyond the continent.

Magazine covers with the title 'Yellow'. The left cover features a woman sitting in a chair wearing a large straw hat, colorful top, and black skirt, in an indoor setting. The right cover shows a close-up of a person with a makeup artist applying makeup, against a yellow background.

The curator

Aisha is also the Co-founder and Curator of creative studio and print magazine Yellowzine. Launched in 2017, Yellowzine champions both emerging and established artists who are defining their craft for a new generation. Known for its considered curation of artists from the African, Caribbean, and Asian diasporas, Yellowzine acts as a directory for artists who are reinventing the landscape of contemporary art in the UK.

In addition to its own exhibitions, the studio curates shows and events for renowned institutions such as The Tate Modern and The Horniman Museum and Gardens. It has also collaborated with global brands such as Nike and Puma to bring a refreshed vision of modern art and creativity to the forefront.
